Self-Portrait
Charcoal;  22"x 30"
This is a self-portrait I drew using charcoal. I enjoyed creating such a realistic drawing and using tonal drawing techniques throughout.
Florence Architecture
Graphite;  11"x 14"
These are two drawings that I did while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. They are of two churches in Florence: Santa Maria del Fiore and Santa Maria Novella. I chose to draw church architecture because it is important to the city's history and because these churches were some of my favorite places I visited while I was in the city. I chose to do more interesting angles of them because I thought it would be a more dynamic composition than drawing the buildings front-on.
Florence Pigeons
Charcoal;  8.5"x 11"
This is a collection of 5 drawings that I did for my study abroad class in Florence, Italy. I drew three of these pigeons using charcoal and a white charcoal pencil on dark gray paper. The other two drawings I created using a rub-out technique where I darkened the whole page with charcoal and then used an eraser to "draw" the bird. I chose to do pigeons for this project because every time I stepped outside in Florence I encountered a pigeon in one way or another- either flying at my face or trying to steal my food. They are all based on pictures I took of pigeons while traveling in Italy.
Frame of Reference
Oil-based ink;  11"x 14"
This is a linocut print that I printed using oil-based ink on 11"x14" paper. I really enjoyed the process of carving the linoleum and then printing the three different color layers. I also enjoyed creating a project that is important to me because of my Catholic faith.
Small Bird
Acrylic;  11"x 14"
This is an acrylic painting that I painted of a bird standing on a rock covered in moss and other plants. I enjoyed creating the realism of the bird and making it look as though it has dimension.
Still Life
Graphite, Pen;  18"x 24"
This is a still life that I drew using graphite and pen on 18' x 24" paper. I really enjoyed developing the negative space in the background of the still life to include the room and the surroundings. I also enjoyed incorporating many different drawing techniques including tonal drawing, hatching, and cross contour.
Let Them Eat Cake
Screenprint;  11"x 15"
The theme for this print was "revolution" and I chose the French Revolution and the Women's March on Versailles to base my print on. I based this print on the idea of imaging what a modern protest poster could look like for this historical event.
The Women's March on Versailles occurred because of inflated taxes and prices of bread and the fact that no one could get any which is why I included the hand holding the bread.
I included "Let them eat cake" on the poster because it is such an iconic line from the French Revolution and because when I was researching the topic, I learned that it is disputed whether Marie Antoinette ever said the phrase. I thought it would be an interesting comment on how a lot of times news today is disputed and called fake as well.
The design is drawn and hand-lettered and then screen printed.
Earth 2.0
Stop Motion Video
This is a stop motion video that I created inspired by the amount of styrofoam that was used in my dorm's dining hall my freshman year because normal plates could not be used because of Covid-19. The styrofoam that makes up the "Earth 2.0" is made of the to-go cups and food containers as well as a plastic to go bag.
